UEFA European Championship 2016 will be held this summer from 10 June to 10 July 2016 in France. With new format which 24 teams will be competed in this tournament from previously format 16 teams, Euro this year also has new team contenders which for the first time in team’s history qualified for Euro tournament. These teams are Northern Ireland, Iceland, Albania, Slovakia and Wales. For Wales national football team Euro 2016 is the second major men’s football tournament they had qualified since FIFA World Cup 1958.

The Wales national football team is established in 1876. Nowadays the Wales team becomes the third oldest football national team in the world. Wales team is organized and controlled by the Football Association of Wales (FAW). Wales always represents their own country for the major tournament they competed with an exception for Olympic Game. Wales team only has two times qualifying in major men’s football tournament, first in 1958 FIFA World Cup and second this Euro 2016. With their improving record, in 2015 Wales team attained 8th position in FIFA ranking, right under Brazil team rank. It is the highest ranks in Wales team football history.

The manager for Wales team now is Chris Coleman. Coleman started his professional football career at aged 16 with Manchester City then he moved to his hometown club Swansea. This accident makes his career as football player ended at aged 32 and the beginning of his coach career. He has manager experience at Fulham, Real Sociedad and Greek’s club Larissa. In 2016 Euro qualifying stage, Wales team had been placed in Group B with Bosnia and Herzegovina, Belgium, Israel, Cyprus, and Andorra. Wales team ensure its place in Euro 2016 final tournament with six wins, three draws and one loss. In the beginning Wales team had been the top of group B in 2016 Euro qualifying stage with unbeaten record however the record is spoiled when Wales team lost with Bosnia-Herzegovina team. The same day Wales team also got the news about their ticket to Euro final tournament when Cyprus team beats Israel team.

The draw for Euro 2016 final tournament put Wales team in group B, along with its home nation fellow team England, Russia and Slovakia. Wales team kick starter will be held in 11 June 2016 versus Slovakia. Among the fellow teams in group B, maybe Slovakia team is the easiest team for Wales team to compete into knock-out phase. The hardest team for Wales team to beat in group B is England team. The English football fans will get to see the interesting match between the same home nation teams. Another tough team Wales team has to beat is Russia team. Russia has many talented players whom Wales can not be underestimated.
